Leon Lopez

1940-2009    With his loving family by his side, Leon Santos Lopez, 68, of Santa Maria passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009.  He was born in Guadalupe, CA on June 28, 1940.  Leon married Gloria Torres and raised two sons, James and Leon.

Leon was involved in the concrete business for over 30 years as the proud owner of  Los Alamos Concrete and Construction Company.  Leon was well known for the excellent workmanship he provided his customers.  Leon was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Santa Maria. He was honored to be the manager and player for the Los Alamos Cowboys baseball team of the Valley League.

Leon loved to be with his family and friends.  He loved to entertain, enjoyed barbecuing, collecting coins and baseball cards, horse racing and visiting Las Vegas.  He also enjoyed watching many sports as well as reminiscing about playing sports in his youth.

Leon was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.  He had many friends and was a very giving person and was always willing to help a friend or those in need.

Leon ran track with me in school and always had a smile on his face. He was a kind soul and a good athlete who took great joy in others success without jealousy or envy. My lifelong empathy and love and compassion for Spanish Latino and Chicano brothers came I believe from playing sports and growing up with "Hermanos" like Leon. Bill Fairfax (formerly Bill McCraw).
