Leonard Lenz

Leonard L. Lenz, 73, of San Diego passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013. Leonard was born in Santa Maria to Adolph and Marian Lenz on April 13, 1940. He joined the Navy after graduating from Santa Maria High School. He retired 20 years later with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He served on the USS Gudgeon (SS-567) May 1960 - September 1961 and the USS Woodrow Wilson (SSBBN624) December 1962 until May 1975.

Leonard lived in San Diego for 35 years. He enjoyed working on his home and in his yard. In his younger years he competed in several marathons and enjoyed bike riding. He was a good traveler whether alone or with family members. He covered much of the USA as well as visiting parts of Europe, China and the Caribbean.

Leonard was always happy to celebrate birthdays and holidays with his family. His chocolate angel food cake was a family favorite. And daily, even after it became difficult, he would proudly hoist Old Glory in front of his home. For those who knew him "TSNH" (Thou Shalt Not Hassle) was his motto and personal North Star. Leonard is survived by his sister, Nadene Lenz Rasmussen, and brother-in-law Doug Rasmussen of Newport Beach. Survivors also include nephews, Rod Rasmussen, Scott and Todd Lenz, niece, Susan Williams and sister-in-law, Ethel Lenz. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Eugene Lenz.
