Was drafted into the Army in July 1963. (five 1/2 months after getting married). Took basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, then went to Quartermaster School at Ft. Lee Virginia for a General Supply Specialist Course. From there, I was assigned to my permanent station to HHC,2ND BN. 27th Infantry,(Wolfhounds), 25th Infantry Division, at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. I was assigned as a Supply Clerk at S-4. My main job was to turn in and request equipment for the companies that the soldiers needed; i.e. pistol belt, poncho, helmet, etc. In July 1965, I extended for one year but was separated earlier due to the division being activated to Vietnam. I did not have enough time left in the Army to make it worth while to be sent to Vietnam so I stayed behind. Highest rank: Spec 4. Total time in U.S. Army: 2 years, 6 months, 8 days.
