     Edward "Eddie" Goodchild, 62, a pioneer of the Santa Maria Valley, passed away October 31, 2003, at his home in Nipomo.  Born at Marian Hospital October 18, 1941, and raised in Garey,he attended and graduated from Blockman Grammar School and Santa Maria High School.  He was active in 4-H, Little League and then FFA, where he raised Southdown sheep.  He took pride in grooming them for himself and other members to show at the Santa Barbara County Fair.

     Upon graduation, he worked at Joe Moore Caterpillar Co. in the parts department.  When it was sold to Wallace Caterpillar Co., he was transferred to Oxnard.  he served two years in the US. Army in Alaska during the Vietnam conflict.  Upon his return from the service, he married Betty Tennyson of Ventura and they had two children, Steven and Jennifer. He and his family were active members in the Associated Blazer Club in Oxnard and spent many hours exploring the wilderness. The family moved to Nipomo in 1978, and Eddie became a proud member of the Elks Lodge No 1538 and enjoyed working the main ticket gate during the Elks Rodeo.  He also loved hunting and especially fishing trips with his family and friends at Convict Lake in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

     In1991, he met and married his second wife, Terry Compton Throckmorton nd they lived happily in Nipomo until his passing. He is survived by his wife, Terry, son Steven, daughter Jennifer, and many family and friends.
